Apocalypse: I Can Hear the Inner Thoughts of Others

Apocalypse: I Can Hear the Inner Thoughts of Others Chapter 14

This was the most comfortable night's sleep Wan Qianya had in days. Not only was the bed big and the comforter warm, but the person holding her also gave her a great sense of security.

8 AM in the morning.

"Going out so early?"

"Got to. The second Airdrop rain will happen at 9, so it's best to find some Airdrop boxes before that and see what the situation is today."

Gently dressing Xiao Jun, Wan Qianya acted like a young wife sending her husband off to work.

"I don't need the bone and kitchen knives anymore, you keep them and protect yourself if anything happens."

"And take these five Mutated Crystals, eat them now."

As if recalling something, Xiao Jun took out five Mutated Crystals.

Although they wouldn't directly help Wan Qianya level up, they could still greatly enhance her physical abilities. She would at least be able to handle an average man.

Seeing the Mutated Crystals in Xiao Jun's hands, Wan Qianya hesitated. She knew those things were dug out of zombie brains.

"You must eat them."

Seeing through Wan Qianya's concerns, Xiao Jun said sternly.

If she couldn't even endure this much, then he had misjudged her.

Since there was no room for discussion, Wan Qianya stopped fussing. She took a bottle of mineral water, closed her eyes, stuffed all five Mutated Crystals into her mouth and immediately washed them down with water.

Feeling the changes the Mutated Crystals brought about, Wan Qianya was full of wonder.

[Can't believe what a great thing this is. It's like my strength has increased and I'm not sore down there anymore!]

Xiao Jun was speechless. Were all college students like this nowadays?

"Remember what I said. I gotta go."

After checking the hallway was clear through the peephole, Xiao Jun swiftly opened the door and went out, closing it immediately behind him.

What he didn't see was that in the room opposite, behind the door, there was another eye peeking through the peephole and observing his every move.

"Brother Qiang, I really wasn't lying about the young man opposite. He bought loads of food, water and all sorts of stuff the day before the apocalypse."

If Xiao Jun had been there, he would have recognized the speaker as the concierge who helped carry his supplies.

"Don't worry, if it's true then there's enough food for us brothers to eat for some time. You'll definitely get your share when the time comes."

The one called Brother Qiang patted the concierge's cheek. The concierge smiled obsequiously, bending at the waist to look up, clearly unable to even see the hand slapping his face.

"You two, hurry up. Once the brat's gone far enough, we'll go over and pry open his door. We'll hit the jackpot."

There were two other men in the room who were engaged in "playtime" with two female staff members, though the ladies looked completely exhausted.

Drinking barely a few sips of water or eating a meal while taking turns "playing" with several men all day could tire out anyone.

...

Xiao Jun did not know about what was transpiring back at the hotel. At that moment he had already gone downstairs.

There were even more zombies in the lobby than the day before, likely because the ones he let in yesterday did not leave.

But things were different now. Xiao Jun no longer cared about a handful of zombies. As long as he had the stamina, no number would be too many - it just meant more Mutated Crystals.

"Stingy bastards, the lot of them."

Out of over thirty zombies, only one Mutated Crystal dropped. It looked like he'd have to level Wan Qianya up sooner since she clearly had better luck.

Outside the hotel doors were even more zombies, with quite a few unfamiliar faces - proof that another zombie rain had fallen overnight.

Xiao Jun did not alert them and simply sped past. Starting a fight in the middle of the street would be asking for trouble given his limited stamina.

Finding Airdrop boxes was the priority now. He would only take on zombies if absolutely necessary.

Getting his bearings, Xiao Jun quietly slipped north at top speed based on Wan Qianya's memory. There was supposed to be an Airdrop box that way.

The whole time Xiao Jun avoided the hordes, swiftly taking out only those that barred his path directly.

At this point he could dispatch zombies lightning fast. Fighting in broad daylight would not attract other zombies from the vicinity.

Keeping up his blinding pace, Xiao Jun moved as fast as he could.

"What's this, a supermarket?"

With a quick sidestep Xiao Jun darted into a supermarket.

Right off the bat a few zombies lunged at him upon entry. He drew his blade and they were liberated in seconds.

"Finally another Mutated Crystal, my luck's terrible."

Muttering to himself, Xiao Jun began rummaging through the place.

There were still pools of water on the floor. Numerous corpses lay strewn about - looked like these poor souls did not make it past the first day.

The shelves had been emptied out. Anything left would have been scavenged clean over the past few days.

Of course that was not what Xiao Jun was after. His target was the supermarket warehouse.

After combing the entire mall he finally spotted a sign and followed a staircase down to the basement. To his surprise there were actually a few zombies down there, a couple clearly once human.

Dealing with them swiftly, Xiao Jun knew he had hit jackpot.

Those ex-humans were likely supermarket staff. After the apocalypse they must have tried to come here for supplies but instead attracted the zombies and ended up joining their ranks instead.

Easily smashing the large padlock on the warehouse doors with his knife, Xiao Jun pushed them open.

Whoa...isn't this a bit much?

His ring had nearly 400 jin (200 kg) of items stored already, with 600 jin of space left. He thought that would be ample, but one look here and it was clearly far from enough.

Snickers bars, nuts, chocolate...

Xiao Jun wanted everything here. If only he could take it all!

This made him even more eager to find more Airdrop boxes. His current storage space was severely inadequate. 500 jin was nowhere near sufficient.

In the end, Xiao Jun stored 100 jin of Snickers bars, another 100 jin of spicy sticks, 100 jin of assorted drinks, 100 jin of potato chips and other snacks, and 100 jin of instant rice.

His storage space was still utterly insufficient. It looked barely touched despite everything he had taken.

Venturing further in, he tossed piles of female panties, bras and all kinds of clothes straight into his ring, taking 100 pieces each. He did the same for 100 sets of male outfits.

When that was done, only a miserable 25 jin capacity remained in his ring.

Closing the warehouse doors, Xiao Jun told himself he must come back with more storage gear when he had it. Next time he would fill his space to maximum capacity.

Exiting the supermarket, Xiao Jun heaved a sigh of relief.

Even if he didn't obtain more storage items, what he currently had along with the hotel's would be enough to sustain him and Wan Qianya for a long time.

With only 20 minutes left until 9 AM, it was time to seriously search for Airdrop boxes.
