As Long as I Outlast You All, I’ll Be Invincible Chapter 45

Chen Xia had started working as a security guard.

He stood outside the tall building, patrolling with Captain Orangutan.

This building had thirty floors in total, and the academic seminar was deep inside, though no one had told them exactly which floor.

The two of them just needed to guard the exterior.

Chen Xia bent down to wipe the mud off his leather shoes before casually tossing them in the trash can.

It was nighttime now, and the wind was strong, blowing his tie around.

Captain Orangutan sat on the railing, smoking a cigarette while scanning the surroundings, keeping an eye out for any disturbances.

Nighttime was when they needed to be most vigilant. One moment of carelessness could allow intruders to sneak in.

Chen Xia stretched lazily, leaning on the railing. With nothing to do, he started cultivating the Giant Turtle Breathing Technique, casually cultivating his immortal cultivation skills.

You might ask why he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings -

Because he was a security guard.

Security guards can't protect anyone, they just need to protect themselves.

Of the three main security guard principles, Chen Xia could ignore two, but he would strictly adhere to the last one:

Retreat safely when facing villains.

That was professional ethics.

Chen Xia sighed feeling that fate truly had a plan.

In the Wuxia Little World he had been a patrol officer, and in the Esper World he was a security guard.

He really was suited for this line of work!

Chen Xia felt quite pleased with himself, thinking that descending into myriad worlds was great - for him it meant ample gains and little risk.

Even if he died, it would only be a loss of 1% of his Divine Sense, which he could make up afterwards.

Meanwhile, his original body in the Vast Sky Sword Sea could still gain points each year and automatically cultivate his cultivation level.

He was currently dual cultivating.

Captain Orangutan finished his cigarette, his rugged face showing a pensive expression. He hesitated for a long while before asking softly,

"Do you really think there's no difference between gaining the esper ability to become a human and to become an orangutan?"

Chen Xia frowned, surprised that Captain Orangutan was still hung up on this issue. He gave an example,

"Do you think there's any difference between a man-eating monster and a monstrous man?"

Captain Orangutan carefully pondered this for a while before replying softly, "They sound the same, but essentially there should still be a difference, right?"

"To me there's no difference," Chen Xia casually replied. Looking at Captain Orangutan, he asked doubtfully,

"Are you lacking in confidence?"

This hit Captain Orangutan's sore spot.

He went silent, his rugged face taking on a sad expression. He lowered his head and after a long pause, replied hoarsely,

"Because I'm not human, they always worry that I'll go berserk. They think I'm uncontrollable, extremely dangerous, and should be...should be..."

Captain Orangutan's voice grew even softer, as if all his strength had been drained away. He uttered the last words,

"Should be locked in a cage."

Chen Xia straightened his tie which had been blown askew by the wind, and laughed, "If it was a three bedroom one living room large cage, I'd want to go in even more than you."

Captain Orangutan didn't reply. His burly figure sat on the railing as he flicked another cigarette out of the pack, a grieved expression on his rugged face. He lowered his head wordlessly.

After a long pause, Chen Xia walked over, blowing in the howling night wind, and asked with a smile, "Are you really bothered by this?"

"Mm," Captain Orangutan grunted softly and nodded slightly. He was truly bothered by this. After a moment, he said softly again,

"After all, I'm not human. Many people look at me strangely..."

"Who knows," Chen Xia didn't care. He laughed and said, "Maybe in other worlds, many people think you're really cool."

"Really?" Captain Orangutan asked hopefully.

"Who knows," Chen Xia gave the same reply.

The wind kept blowing as the building remained perfectly quiet without a hint of sound.

Looking at the towering building behind them and the pitch black night, Chen Xia grew doubtful.

What academic seminar needed to be held at night?

Plus earlier when he was keeping watch, he saw many beautiful young ladies going upstairs.

Was this academic seminar really proper?

Chen Xia felt it wasn't very proper.

The night wind blew unhindered, swirling around the building.

Chen Xia pondered.

If he were coming to assassinate someone, he definitely wouldn't choose the first day, nor the last day.

It would be during the boring, tedious middle period.

That was when people were most likely to be negligent.

Of course Chen Xia wasn't included in this - he was always negligent.

And so the first day passed peacefully.

On the second day, Chen Xia arrived late. The reason was that he needed to sleep a full ten hours.

This was something he had stated during his self-introduction.

Captain Orangutan didn't reprimand him, and instead comforted, "If you feel too tired, you can rest a bit more before coming. I'll be fine guarding by myself."

"Okay," Chen Xia replied.

And so on the third day, he indeed came late again.

Captain Orangutan gently advised, "If you're having insomnia, you can try soaking your feet before bed, or massaging acupressure points..."

He gave advice gently, worried that it would affect Chen Xia again.

Chen Xia curiously asked, "How did you gain your esper ability? It seems that globally, few non-human existences have esper abilities, right?"

This was something he had discovered after doing some research these past couple days.

Captain Orangutan's rugged face took on a reminiscent expression as he slowly explained to Chen Xia:

"My hometown is in the great jungle. My tribe lives there, amid green mountains and clear waters, everything vibrant and lively."

"Of course this had nothing to do with me, because I was born in a lab, an experiment subject for an empowering drug. I was the luckiest experiment subject."

"Because I was the only success. Hawkeye took me out, and I gained the identity of Captain Orangutan."

Chen Xia nodded, thinking this was quite a good story.

Captain Orangutan's rugged face took on a dejected look as he continued, "Earlier I said a sentence..."

He repeated, "After this mission, I plan on going home and getting married."

"Mm, I feel like it's best not to randomly say things like this," Chen Xia critiqued.

The dejected expression on Captain Orangutan's face swelled to the extreme at this moment, grieved as he shook his head, like the ringing of a muffled bell. Pitifully, he said,

"I was lying to you. I say this every time I'm on a mission - maybe it's because I hope I can leave."

"On stage, you spoke your wish, right?"

Leaning on the railing with his tie fluttering in the wind, Chen Xia nodded. "Mm."

Captain Orangutan let out a sigh. "I really envy that you can voice your wish in front of everyone. Actually, I have a wish too. Do you want to hear it?"

"Just say it," Chen Xia leaned against the wall.

Captain Orangutan hesitated briefly. "Can you promise not to laugh at me?"

"Mm, I promise," Chen Xia nodded.

"Okay." Captain Orangutan composed himself, repeatedly exhaling as if speaking his wish was very difficult for him. After a long wait, he finally mustered his courage and loudly declared,

"My wish is to graduate a virgin!"

Damn!

Chen Xia looked at him expressionlessly and suggested,

"Can I take back my earlier promise?"
