The Law

Su Ze faced off with the cunning ghost for a while as it sized him up with its beady eyes.

Suddenly, the cunning ghost vanished, startling Su Ze.

What was happening? Why couldn't he detect even a trace of energy fluctuation!

Then, a scream came from a nearby single-story house!

Su Ze immediately transferred his main body to the nearest clone near that house, broke through the window, and saw the cunning ghost gnawing on a boy's head.

Upon seeing Su Ze's arrival, the ghost's beady eyes looked at him, full of cunning and defiance. In almost an instant, Su Ze only caught a glimpse of an afterimage before the mother, who had been kneeling and wailing nearby, was kicked into a bloody mist against the wall by the ghost.

Su Ze felt a tightness in his chest as rage instantly ignited within him. "Beast!"

He swung his blade, but at that moment, the cunning ghost suddenly vanished again. Su Ze couldn't track its whereabouts at all. Screams and cries for help rang out continuously, and within minutes, dozens of lives were lost in horrifically brutal ways.

Su Ze's face darkened as his main body instantly took over the clone guarding the long case, grasping it.

Simultaneously, shadowy images of the black case appeared on all his clones' backs.

Su Ze could project items held by his main body onto his clones, and when transferring his main body, the items would transfer with him.

Su Ze placed the straight dagger into the long case, reached in, and pulled out a straight-bladed sword with a sharp edge - a Miao sword about four feet long, roughly 1.4 meters.

His fingers reached in again, taking out an oil lamp burning with blue-green flames.

He knew he couldn't wait any longer.

Su Ze thrust the long sword through the lamp, the blade passing through the lampshade as blue-green flames climbed up the blade, engulfing it in roaring azure fire.

Su Ze transferred his main body to the clone nearest to where he had heard the screams earlier, and slashed. The blue-green flames on the blade spread like splattered ink or like torrential rain shooting upward into the sky, forming a massive net of fire that covered the entire area.

A shadow broke through the fire net with a crash. With a sizzling sound, the figure immediately fell to the ground convulsing, screaming and rolling around trying to extinguish the flames.

It was all futile. The grotesque ghost was surrounded by blue-green flames. It stood up to find its arms cracking inch by inch, its skin turning to ash like burning paper, though these changes were happening very slowly - it would take at least several hours to burn it to death.

Watching Su Ze charge forward with his flame-wreathed sword, the grotesque ghost's eyes darted about, its smile cunning and horrifyingly exaggerated.

Kill the spellcaster, and the spell naturally breaks.

Its figure blurred, appearing in front of Su Ze almost instantly. Su Ze barely managed to catch the ghost's impossibly fast attack, bringing his sword up diagonally to guard.

Bang!

Su Ze was kicked and sent flying dozens of meters by a blow so fast it left only an afterimage. Suddenly, he was hit hard from behind - somehow, the grotesque ghost had appeared behind him.

Su Ze endured the pain and twisted his waist mid-air, slashing out a five-meter diameter blade of light wreathed in blue flames. This wide-ranging attack directly severed one arm of the cunning ghost as it was about to launch another attack!

The cunning ghost was shocked, not expecting Su Ze to see through its attack timing.

Su Ze gave it no chance to breathe, his sword strikes coming like an avalanche, swiftly engulfing the grotesque ghost. The oil lamp in his left hand flickered, suddenly erupting with powerful flames that interacted with the flames on the grotesque ghost, creating a massive pulling force that noticeably constrained some of the ghost's speed.

The Law!

The grotesque ghost incredulously noticed the faint presence of Law energy on the oil lamp.

Its eyes suddenly filled with excitement and madness as it abandoned meaningless dodging, using its agile speed and powerful strength to engage Su Ze head-on.

The grotesque ghost's attacks were extremely frenzied, using both fists and feet, moving so fast it stirred up the surrounding air into fierce winds, showing signs of overwhelming Su Ze's offensive.

Fierce winds arose in the Seventh District!

The gap between peak Candle Realm and early Lamp Realm was fully displayed at this moment. Even with Su Ze wielding power used by gods for creation, he could barely withstand the cunning ghost's attacks.

Su Ze didn't need to guess why the ghost suddenly became excited - it wanted to seize his Law power for itself.

Law power was the most coveted force in this world - it was the power of gods.

But precisely because it was divine power, the cunning ghost found it difficult to kill Su Ze and take the Law. Otherwise, with its strength, Su Ze's peak Candle Realm power wouldn't have lasted fifteen minutes against it.

Yet now, Su Ze had managed to fight it head-on for over an hour, relying on the power of Law and the agility provided by his clones.

"Impressive," Shen Qingsheng remarked, watching the intense battle of blade versus fist in the sky.

By now, the number of ghosts in the street had exceeded fifty. He had fought until his arms were too numb to lift, then switched hands to hold his blade. His clothes were tattered like old sacking, blood constantly seeping out, though his powerful physique quickly contained the bleeding.

The Seventh District was devastated. Tonight's death toll had already exceeded two hundred. If not for Su Ze occasionally finding gaps in combat to help Shen Qingsheng resist the ghosts, the death toll would have been even more massive.

The district was filled with bullet-riddled houses and the wailing of people. Shen Qingsheng didn't have the mobility of an ability user like Su Ze - he was a superhuman with enhanced physical abilities but no special powers, relying only on his body to move around.

In the Sixth District, late at night.

Meng Xingyao decapitated a ghost, stepped on its falling corpse to leap up, then dove down, ducking under another ghost's attack before counter-attacking with her blade. With a squelch, the ghost's head went flying.

She grabbed one ghost's head, yanked it towards her while simultaneously delivering a flying knee that shattered its skull, blood spraying everywhere.

She moved through the battlefield like a war god. Today, ghosts were dying almost as soon as they appeared, none lasting more than ten minutes.

Uesugi Chigenki watched the seemingly blood-drunk Meng Xingyao with surprise.

Had she secretly taken some kind of drug to become so powerful?

Meng Xingyao wiped the blood flowing from her nose. While Uesugi Chigenki was busy dealing with ghosts, she took out a vial from her sleeve. A sharp needle extended from the bottom of the vial, which she thrust directly into her arm.

As the liquid entered her arm, Meng Xingyao's energy grew even stronger, and she began slaughtering ghosts like they were nothing.

This was a drug that Huaxia University had started developing two years ago. It wasn't fully perfected yet and was still in pre-clinical trials, not yet released to market.

The drug could temporarily provide people with power, but the side effects caused irreversible damage.

Meng Xingyao knew they couldn't survive the blood moon tonight with just the two of them, so she had applied to Huaxia University for the drug. They agreed but only gave her two doses. Using the excuse that she had two people on her side, she managed to get five doses.

She hadn't given any to Uesugi Chigenki, having already used three doses herself. Unless she couldn't hold on and was near death, she would only give the drug to Uesugi Chigenki for the sake of the people.

By Meng Xingyao's calculations, two doses would be enough for Uesugi Chigenki to hold out.

e bizarre and supernatural had descended. The previous emperor was a thoroughgoing tyrant; no longer satisfied with human women, he had set his sights on a stunningly beautiful supernatural entity. He met his end in his bedchamber, drained of all his vital essence. As the legitimate eldest son and crown prince, Wang Hao was thus hastily enthroned, becoming the young emperor of the Great Zhou Dynasty. No sooner had he awakened the "Imperial Sign-In Intelligence System" than he was assassinated by a Son of Destiny—a classic villain's opening. The Great Zhou, ravaged by the former emperor's excesses, was in national decline. The great families within its borders harbored their own treacherous schemes, martial sects began to defy the imperial court's decrees, and border armies, their pay and provisions in arrears, grumbled incessantly against the central government. Fortunately, the central capital was still held secure by the half-million Imperial Guards and fifty thousand Imperial Forest Army who obeyed the court's orders, along with the royal family's hidden reserves of power, barely managing to suppress the realm. As the Great Zhou's finances worsened and supernatural activities grew ever more frequent, the court sat atop a volcano. Ambitious plotters everywhere dreamed of overthrowing the dynasty, and even some reclusive ancient powers emerged, attempting to sway the tides of the world. At the first grand court assembly, the civil and military officials nearly came to blows, fighting tooth and nail over the allocation of fifty million taels of silver from the summer tax revenues. The spectacle opened Wang Hao's eyes—the Great Zhou's bureaucracy was not only corrupt but also martially proficient, a cabinet of all-rounders. Some officials even had the audacity to suggest the emperor release funds from the imperial privy purse to address the emergency. Wang Hao suddenly felt weary. Let it all burn.
