Lin Feng used Identify to scan the surroundings, but did not find anyone else hiding nearby.
"Yuna, can you locate their position?" Lin Feng stroked her ears. As a canine, her racial ability should come in handy here.
Yuna did not sense anything amiss and took the initiative to grab Lin Feng's hand to lead the way.
Not long after, Lin Feng heard sounds in the distance. It was the clashing of metal weapons. Due to the sound blocking in the maze, such loud noises meant people were not far away.
"Let's sneak over quietly and be an unnoticed observer."
"What does 'be an unnoticed observer' mean?" Emily asked, confused.
Lin Feng gently knocked her head: "Just listen to the first half of the sentence, you don't need to worry about the second half."
Emily scratched her head and mumbled in acknowledgment.
The three of them tiptoed over stealthily like thieves.
Lin Feng finally heard the shouting and cursing.
"With just you guys? Rabble..."
"Boss, they can't hold out much longer!"
"We'll strike it rich once we kill them!"
Hearing the chaotic shouting up ahead, Lin Feng took the chance to rush over. He finally saw the people.
A group of dark-skinned, bare-chested brawny men were fighting two adventurers. There were also many bodies lying on the ground, some still groaning, some already dead.
Lin Feng used Identify to scan them.
[Maze Robbers ×16]
[Adventurers in Desperate Straits ×2]
"Master, they are all humans, so why are they fighting each other?" Yuna could not comprehend this.
"Robbery. They want to kill and loot." Lin Feng hid to one side to watch the fight. "What's wrong? Wouldn't beastmen do the same?"
"Absolutely not." The two beast-eared girls replied in unison.
???
"If we loot, it would be from humans or other races, never our own kind," Emily explained seriously.
"Every member of the tribe has the duty to contribute to it. Such internecine violence that also harms the interests of the tribe would, at the minimum, lead to exile or capital punishment on the spot."
"You're talking about overt actions. Surely such things happen covertly too? It's just that no one knows about them," Lin Feng raised his eyebrows at the robbers, "Look at them, doing this kind of thing inside the maze. Isn't that to avoid being seen?"
Emily was taken aback by his words: "When you put it that way, maybe there are such cases. But I wouldn't know about them."
She patted Lin Feng's shoulder, then inexplicably patted her own chest: "But don't worry, I won't make a move against you. You're my husband."
"I'm not worried about you or me. This little bunny spirit isn't a match for me."
"Wha...what bunny spirit?!" Emily hammered Lin Feng twice. "How dare you look down on me!"
"We can continue this when we get back. Shhh!" Lin Feng covered Emily's mouth.
Throughout this, Yuna had been wholeheartedly observing the fight.
"Master, shouldn't we save them?"
"Save them?" Lin Feng rubbed his head.
He felt there was no real reason to do so.
Those two men were strangers, with no relationship to him and Yuna.
"Yes, kill all those bad guys and rescue those two," Emily said viciously.
"Why rescue them? Humans are bad people. I'd be happy to watch them kill each other," Emily said ruthlessly.
Lin Feng knocked her head again.
Although he didn't intend to rescue those two men, Emily's erroneous views still needed correction.
"There are good people in this world, but the only one you can truly trust is yourself," Lin Feng said.
Even for the good people, you can't place absolute, unreserved trust in them.
"I...I actually trust Master quite a bit," Yuna said softly, tugging at Lin Feng's sleeve.
"And I also trust you a lot," Emily added.
Hearing their words warmed Lin Feng's heart.
Beast-eared girls were great. As long as you treated them well, they would trust you wholeheartedly without any ulterior motives.
Such guileless girls would probably be swindled of everything by scumbags in his old world.
"Of course, as your husband, protecting you is my duty. You can unconditionally trust me," Lin Feng stroked the heads of his beast-eared wives.
"But...Master, those two seem to be in dire straits," Yuna said anxiously.
Lin Feng looked back. At some point, the two adventurers had completely fallen into disadvantage.
With their backs against each other, they were surrounded by dozens of robbers.
"Should we...save their lives?" Yuna gently tugged at Lin Feng's sleeve again.
"Do you want to save them?"
"It'd just take a flick of the hand. At worst, we can ask them for a reward after rescuing them," Yuna said, drawing her greatsword, already raring to go.
Silly girl! Even if we don't rescue them, the money would still be ours in the end.
But since my wife has gone soft-hearted...
Just as Lin Feng was preparing to help, the situation took a turn.
One of the adventurers suddenly backstabbed his companion and attempted to defect to the robbers.
"......"
All three of them were rendered speechless.
However, that guy also met a bad end, getting his throat slit directly.
"Master, you may have been right. The only one you can trust is yourself," Yuna said in a daze.
"Humans really can't be trusted. Comrades-in-arms one second, backstabbing traitors the next just to save their own skin," Emily said through gritted teeth. "Cowardly bastards!"
Well, what can one say?
The two words "human nature" were far more complicated than these beast-eared girls imagined.
"Alright alright, you two go take care of them," Lin Feng patted the shoulders of his beast-eared wives. He would just squat here and watch the show.
After appraising the robbers, he found none above level 13. They were absolutely no match for his wives, so he had nothing to worry about.
"Can you do it?" Lin Feng asked this openly, but he was really only addressing Yuna.
"What's there to be unable to do?" Emily made a disdainful face while picking her ear.
Yuna swung her greatsword, inspecting her weapon: "I won't show mercy to evildoers."
Lin Feng heaved a sigh of relief.
"Do you plan to kill them directly or give them a warning first?"
"We'll warn them first. Killing them straight away is too lenient," Emily said excitedly, nocking an arrow on her short bow.
Then Yuna also walked out with her.
The robbers' boss immediately noticed the two beast-eared girls swaggering out.
"Hah, time to work, brothers! More bitches keep coming, endless sources of wealth!"
"Where did these small fries pop out from?" Emily disdainfully picked her ear.
A random underling jumped out arrogantly: "Small fries? Our boss is 'One-eyed Harlen', the most vicious robber in these parts!"
"Idiot! What kind of fool reveals information about himself?" The boss then slapped his underling.
"Whatever, those two beastmen are going to die anyway, no difference..."
The boss sized up Yuna and Emily, planning to take them captive as comfort women for the gang. After having his fun, he'd toss them to his underlings. When short on cash, he could sell them to slave traders.
But before he could finish his fantasies, his head was already separated from his body.
Yuna was extremely fast. In the blink of an eye, seven or eight heads went flying.
Before the rest could react, Emily exercised her wild imagination on them.
"Still too quick, letting them off too easy," Emily pulled out the arrows lodged in their foreheads.
