The Body Snatching Case

Hotel Suite.

"What did you say? Someone's stealing corpses?" Xu Mo, who had been sleeping for two hours and was playing with his phone, received a call from Chen Ke.

"Okay, I'll head over right away."

Their conversation ended quickly.

After hanging up, Xu Mo hurriedly put on his shoes and left for the hospital.

The hotel was near the hospital, so it didn't take Xu Mo long to get there.

When he arrived, the local police hadn't shown up yet.

At the hospital entrance, Xu Mo met up with Chen Ke.

"What's going on? Someone's stealing corpses? Did you see it yourself?" Xu Mo asked directly.

"No, it's my guess," Chen Ke proceeded to explain the cause of the incident and his deductions.

After listening, Xu Mo nodded slightly: "Then it really could be someone stealing corpses. I definitely don't believe in corpses coming back to life."

After speaking, Xu Mo suddenly remembered that this wasn't in Ram City, so the case had nothing to do with him! He couldn't just interfere!

"Wait, this isn't our jurisdiction. Cases here aren't our responsibility. Couldn't you just call the police when something like this happens? Why call me? We can't just take over someone else's case... The local police probably wouldn't appreciate us butting in."

Chen Ke shook his head.

"Of course we're not taking over their case. I know the rules. I've already called the police, but it'll take time for them to get here. I thought we could guard the morgue entrance until they arrive, to prevent the thief from coming back... You know my hand is broken, and I couldn't handle the corpse thief alone if I encountered them, that's why I called you."

"Fine, I'll wait with you for a while."

Xu Mo figured since he was already there, he might as well wait a bit. The local police should arrive in a few minutes anyway.

It was just a shame that this case wasn't in Ram City, not in their jurisdiction, so he couldn't participate in the investigation or make arrests, meaning he wouldn't get any system rewards.

...

Soon after, two police cars stopped at the hospital entrance, and the officers got out and entered the hospital.

They called Chen Ke, the person who reported the case, and after learning he was at the morgue entrance, the officers headed straight there.

At the morgue entrance.

"Did you report this case?" seeing two people at the morgue entrance, an officer asked, "Why do you suspect someone is stealing corp... Holy shit, Xu Mo? Chen Ke? Is that you two?"

"I heard people saying this afternoon that Xu Mo was in our small county, and it's really true!"

"Of course he's here. Haven't you seen the trending topics? Xu Mo was on a plane that lost control, and if he hadn't managed to control it in time, everyone on board would have died. They made an emergency landing in the valley east of our county."

"Can I get your autograph? I'm your idol... I mean, I'm your fan. I heard you've helped solve multiple murder cases since you just started, with a hundred percent success rate?"

"..."

Upon seeing Xu Mo and Chen Ke, the officers completely forgot their original purpose.

One of the two people standing before them was absolutely legendary.

In one day, he had made it to two trending topics. One was about how he stepped up to control a malfunctioning plane, saving everyone on board.

The other trending topic was about how this 'maverick' Xu Mo had recently joined the police force, and since joining, he had participated in solving numerous murder cases, successfully closing every single one, maintaining a perfect success rate so far!

Participating in multiple murder cases with a hundred percent success rate... That was remarkable, making him a notable figure in any police department!

After their excitement finally settled, the local officers remembered their purpose and slapped their foreheads: "Look at my memory... Got so excited I forgot why we came. You reported someone stealing corpses?"

Chen Ke thought, finally getting to the point, and nodded: "Yes, someone's stealing corpses. Here's what happened: I was in the ward when I heard someone shouting about a corpse coming back to life..."

After hearing Chen Ke's explanation, the officers furrowed their brows.

Regarding corpses coming back to life, they shared Chen Ke's view - it was impossible. After all, corpses aren't living beings, how could they move?

Plus, Chen Ke had relayed the young nurse's words verbatim, proving that the corpse wasn't someone pretending, but an actual corpse.

The officers also realized that things were likely exactly as Chen Ke suspected - someone was stealing corpses! And using the resurrection story as a cover.

However, they couldn't figure out exactly how the person made the corpse move.

"I might have missed some details. You can check the surveillance footage and question the hospital's patients, nurses, and security guards to get the full story. You're busy, so my friend and I will head out," Chen Ke said.

Before leaving, he added a courtesy phrase: "If you need any help from us, feel free to ask. We're all in the same system, and if we can help, we definitely will."

Such courtesies usually aren't taken seriously.

But these officers clearly didn't follow the usual script. As soon as Chen Ke finished speaking, they responded: "We do need help! This case seems complicated, and we're short-handed. If you two are willing to help, that would be perfect."

Chen Ke was stunned - they actually took his courtesy offer seriously?

But now he was in a tight spot, since he'd already made the offer, it would be awkward to refuse.

Chen Ke looked at Xu Mo beside him: "Do you want to stay and help?"

Xu Mo thought for a moment, then said: "Sure."

Actually, he was quite curious about this case - who the perpetrator was and how they managed to make the corpse move. So helping with the investigation wasn't a bad idea. At least after solving the mystery, his curiosity would be satisfied, and besides, he could get system rewards - not a bad deal!
