"Captain Han, the guy in jeans up ahead is Chen Wu, the one we're looking for!"
The Chen brothers had just stepped out of the old self-built house when the officers spotted Chen Wu, wearing jeans and a white T-shirt.
This was the suspect they had identified earlier through Skynet at the police station!
"Stop!"
"Don't run!"
There was still a distance of two to three hundred meters between the officers and the two men. Even Xu Mo and Chen Ke, who were in good physical shape, couldn't close the gap quickly.
Especially since their car was parked less than twenty meters to the right of the self-built house. The two men only took a few steps before hopping into the vehicle.
Seeing the Chen brothers get into the car, the officers' first thought was, "Damn, they're going to get away."
The police cars were parked near the exit ramp of the highway, about a kilometer away. At this point, going back to get the cars and chase them down wasn't feasible.
As for catching up to the suspects' small truck on foot? That was even more unrealistic.
How could anyone outrun a vehicle? Not to mention, they were still over a hundred meters away from the truck.
Just as the officers' hopes were sinking, a twist of fate occurred.
After getting into the car, the Chen brothers didn't immediately drive off. Instead, they hesitated for a moment, giving the officers a glimmer of hope.
Taking advantage of this brief window, the officers sprinted forward, closing the distance between them.
But then, something even more unexpected happened.
The driver's side door of the small truck suddenly opened, and Chen Wen, with his bald head, jumped out of the vehicle. He immediately ran back toward the old self-built house.
"What's this guy up to?" Han Fei, seeing the suspect's bizarre behavior, immediately sensed trouble. "He's not going inside to take hostages, is he?"
What Han Fei didn't realize was that Chen Wen wasn't running back to the house to take hostages and negotiate with the police. He was rushing to delete the browsing history on the computer...
Meanwhile, Chen Wu, who had been left behind in the car, quickly moved from the passenger seat to the driver's seat. Gripping the steering wheel, he slammed his foot on the accelerator.
Although he had never driven a large vehicle before, he knew how to operate a car. Big or small, vehicles were vehicles, and the theory couldn't be that different. In any case, he wasn't going to sit there and wait to be caught.
With a series of clanging noises, the small truck started moving.
"Damn it... why is this piece of junk so hard to drive? I turned the steering wheel three times, and the tires barely moved!" Chen Wu had clearly underestimated the difficulty of driving such a large vehicle and overestimated his own driving skills. He couldn't help but curse under his breath.
Having only driven small cars before, he was completely out of his depth with this truck.
"What's going on?" Han Fei was even more confused now.
Had the two suspects turned on each other at the critical moment? Or... had Chen Wu abandoned his accomplice?
The clever Han Fei quickly pieced together what had happened. In his view, Chen Wu must have tricked Chen Wen into getting out of the car to take hostages as a bargaining chip. Chen Wen had believed him, but as soon as he stepped out, Chen Wu drove off, leaving him behind.
Of course, Han Fei didn't dwell on this too much. Right now, catching the suspects was the top priority.
The one driving the truck would be harder to catch—after all, no one could outrun a vehicle. But the one who had run into the house? He was as good as caught. Not even divine intervention could save him now!
Among the officers, Xu Mo and Chen Ke, who were in the best physical shape, were leading the charge. They were the first to reach the dilapidated self-built house.
After a quick scan of the first floor, which was empty, they hurried up the stairs to the second floor.
There, they found Chen Wen, his bald head gleaming, sitting at a computer, frantically clicking the mouse, seemingly trying to do something.
In the corner of the room, a young boy was tied up with ropes. This was the same boy who had mysteriously disappeared from the mall.
"Freeze! Hands on your head, squat against the wall!" Xu Mo shouted at Chen Wen, while giving Chen Ke a meaningful look.
Chen Ke immediately understood. He dashed to the corner of the room, picked up the bound boy, and quickly retreated back to Xu Mo's side.
By then, the other officers had also arrived on the second floor. Seeing that the boy wasn't being held hostage by Chen Wen but was instead safely in Chen Ke's arms, they breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Chen Wen, too, seemed to relax.
Working against the clock, he had managed to delete the browsing history from all the browsers on the computer just before the police arrived.
"Phew..." Chen Wen exhaled heavily, then turned to face the dozen or so officers now blocking the staircase.
Despite being outnumbered, he showed no fear.
"You damn cops, I'll fight you to the death!"
With a loud yell, he charged at Xu Mo, who was closest to him.
In truth, if it hadn't been for his brother Chen Wu stopping him earlier, he wouldn't have even considered running. He had been ready to fight the officers from the start.
Facing the burly, bald, and menacing Chen Wen, Xu Mo didn't hesitate.
He delivered a hard slap across Chen Wen's face.
Xu Mo hadn't used his full strength, but the force was enough to send Chen Wen sprawling to the ground. Stars danced before Chen Wen's eyes, and his ears rang with a loud buzzing sound.
"Cuff him," Xu Mo said, flexing his slightly numb hand. He didn't even glance back at Chen Wen, exuding the confidence of a Hollywood action hero.
"Captain Xu, that was awesome, so cool!" Chen Ke couldn't help but give Xu Mo a thumbs-up.
Facing someone as big as Chen Wen, Chen Ke was confident he could take him down too, but it would have taken him three or four moves.
But Captain Xu? He took the guy down with a single slap!
And the way Xu Mo casually walked away afterward, without even looking back, was straight out of a blockbuster movie. A real man never looks back at the explosion!
"Enough with the praise. We still have one more to catch. Let's focus on bringing the other guy in first," Han Fei said. "Cuff this one up. Captain Xu, you and Chen Ke stay here and keep an eye on him. I'll take the rest and continue the chase."
Just as he finished speaking, a loud *bang* echoed from outside the window.
Looking out, the officers saw that the truck the suspect had driven off in had crashed head-on into a bridge pillar. The front of the vehicle was completely crumpled.
Seeing this, the officers exchanged glances, momentarily stunned.
Well, they had been worrying about how to catch the guy, but now they didn't need to... he had delivered himself right to them!
