“Hmph, hmph....”
Shu Yunyi's expression immediately relaxed, as if she had seen through Cheng Jun's true colors.
“So naively foolish.”
Cheng Jun suddenly realized that she shouldn't have answered that question at all. Whether or not it was true, there was no way to confirm, and either answer would lead to trouble.
“You tricked me!”
Shu Yunyi chuckled happily, her face brightening with a radiant smile as she said:
“That’s what you think, but I didn’t trick you, oh~”
As she spoke, she leaned slightly closer and whispered softly,
“But it doesn’t matter if I tell you, the correct answer is… no!”
This time, Cheng Jun wouldn’t believe her at all. She responded with a cold laugh:
“You talk as if it’s real. Do you really think I would believe you?”
“Believe it or not, he’s my husband, and no one knows him better than me.”
Shu Yunyi proudly lifted her chin. She and Shen Yi were destined lovers, meant to be together; no one could tear them apart.
She looked at Cheng Jun, who was puffing out her cheeks like a little steamed bun from anger, feeling immensely satisfied, confident that Cheng Jun was nothing more than a counterfeit girlfriend eyeing her husband.
Feeling emboldened, she couldn’t help but provoke her further:
“He and I sleep together every night. There’s nothing on his body I haven’t seen. And you? You’re just a pitiful liar.”
In order to leave a good impression on Shen Yi now, she decided to take the initiative and come looking for him, as she didn’t want him to see the pathetic state she was in, drowning in alcohol and depression at her apartment.
But instead of finding her husband, she ran into this tigress blocking her way. Despite having full confidence in herself, she knew better than to add any more variables, so she went all out to suppress this potential rival.
Cheng Jun pointed at herself, laughing in disbelief:
“Me? You think I’m pitiful?”
Her chest rose and fell violently from the few words that had triggered her, making her feel flushed and restless. Thankfully, her days of surviving in the apocalypse had greatly improved her self-control, so she didn’t burst out into a tirade.
But there was no way she could muster a pleasant expression now. Hence, she fired back with all she had:
“Me, lying? And what about you? Where did you even spring from, you wild woman!”
“Shen Yi is an employee at Tiancheng Corporation. His file clearly states he’s unmarried. So, may I ask, what kind of marriage are you talking about?”
Then, with a mocking expression, Cheng Jun added:
“Wife? How shameful!”
“I….”
Shu Yunyi instinctively wanted to retort, but then quickly shut her mouth.
Explaining the concept of a past life and present one would only invite Cheng Jun’s ridicule, likely leaving her with nothing more than a story to laugh at or even brand her as crazy.
But she wasn’t about to back down. Instead, Shu Yunyi sought to counterattack from another angle:
“Who are you calling a wild woman? I met Shen Yi long before you even knew what a runny nose was!”
After all, she had been Shen Yi’s teacher and had seen him at his most youthful and awkward, years before Cheng Jun ever did.
This particular argument was Cheng Jun’s weak spot. Having Fang Nan already overshadowing her was bad enough.
Now, some random woman who popped out of nowhere wanted to claim dominance over her? She wasn’t about to let that happen. So, she retorted with a sneer:
“Does it matter who knows him first in matters of love? Being first doesn’t make you special!”
Cheng Jun then gave Shu Yunyi a thorough once-over, belittling her without hesitation:
“Look at you, some ancient relic of a woman, dark circles under your eyes that you can’t even hide, and wearing a dress, trying to look young!”
There was no denying that women understood other women. Shu Yunyi had rushed over in her haste, neglecting her appearance, and her age was a clear weakness. Cheng Jun’s words struck right at her Achilles' heel.
While everything up until that last sentence had been bearable, the reference to her age sent her into a fury. Her brows knit together, her eyes flashing with anger, and she defiantly puffed out her chest:
“Trying to look young? At least I’m better than some flat-chested, no-ass, bratty little girl!”
“Got mad, didn’t you?!”
Cheng Jun, who had never been looked down upon before, felt a bit wronged but retorted stubbornly, her words just as sharp.
Her figure was actually quite good—standing at 1.72 meters with a perfect proportion, well-endowed, especially boasting long, straight, fair legs.
But that was all relative. Compared to the figure standing opposite her, with those full, pert mounds, all Cheng Jun could do was curse inwardly and lament the unfairness of it all.
“Little brat~”
Shu Yunyi felt a momentary frustration in her chest but quickly dismissed it. Seeing that she had gained the upper hand, her lips curled into a satisfied smile. She knew exactly what Shen Yi liked, and in this aspect, she had absolute confidence. So, she spoke with a tone of warning:
“Knowing the gap is good. He won’t like someone like you. Understand your place and leave him now, while you still can.”
Cheng Jun despised her arrogance, rolling her eyes and shooting back:
“So what if you’ve slept together? Big deal. Maybe he was just practicing on you!”
Shu Yunyi had been waiting for this, and now she could fire back with glee:
“Jealous, huh?!"
“Heh….”
Cheng Jun managed to squeak out half a laugh, dropping her arms that had been crossed over her chest, her disdain evident as she said:
“Me, jealous?”
“Let me tell you, it’s not a big deal. The only reason I haven’t is that I didn’t want to. If I wanted, I could do it anytime!”
She regretted not being more proactive during the apocalypse, which was why she was so assertive now. Her heart had always belonged to Shen Yi alone, and she was ready to give herself to him whenever he wanted.
Shu Yunyi was taken aback by Cheng Jun’s bold words, her expression calm and composed, completely unabashed by what she had just said. Immediately, she spat out:
“Pfft! Dream on!”
“He’s my husband!”
Cheng Jun remained unfazed, her eyes half-lidded as she lazily remarked:
“Oh… do you have a marriage license?”
“If not, step aside. It’s not certain who he belongs to yet. I’m his official live-in girlfriend!”
Cheng Jun waved her hand dismissively to the side, deliberately trying to provoke Shu Yunyi.
“You!”
Shu Yunyi took a few deep breaths, then angrily waved her hand, declaring:
“I’m not going to waste my breath on you. Where’s Shen Yi? Tell me, where did he go?”
She remained focused on the crux of the matter. Once she saw Shen Yi, everything would be clear. After all, she was his white moonlight; how could she lose to this counterfeit girlfriend?
Even if Shen Yi didn’t immediately side with her, Shu Yunyi was confident that with her proactive pursuit, winning him over would be a piece of cake.
“Why should I tell you?”
Cheng Jun casually brushed her off, simultaneously glancing towards the opposite door without drawing attention.
She had no idea if Shen Yi was at home. Although they hadn’t been yelling at each other, their voices were neither too loud nor too quiet. If Shen Yi was paying attention, he would have heard them.
Cheng Jun wasn’t sure if he was currently not at home, if he was at home but hadn’t heard them, or if he had heard but was too afraid to come out.
At this moment, her curiosity was overwhelming, almost surpassing Shu Yunyi’s desire to see Shen Yi.
…………
Shen Yi had left Jingyuan University and taken a taxi straight home.
He suspected that Shu Yunyi might be looking for him, but he wasn’t sure if she remembered the address of his current rental.
If she did, they probably just missed each other.
Filled with doubts, Shen Yi entered the residential area and walked up the stairs.
As he approached his apartment door, he faintly heard two pleasant female voices echoing through the corridor.
The voices were very familiar. His steps slowed, and with caution, he peeked around the corner.
What he saw made his eyes widen, and despite running ten kilometers without breaking a sweat, he felt a chill run down his spine, muttering:
“Oh no!”
