Jack was furious, but he did not come over to call Jenny.
And Luo Jun did not say anything. The three smart women would certainly not call Jack over either. They knew that Luo Jun had the final say in this place.
If Luo Jun did not take care of them, and with winter just beginning and no hopes of being rescued for months, they certainly could not survive. As the weak ones, they were more aware than anyone else of their survival situation.
Luo Jun did not actually want to take in Jack because he was too calculating.
When they were on the life raft, if Jack had reached out to grab that pile of seaweed, he might already be dead by now.
There was a very high probability that there were jellyfish in that pile of receding tide seaweed.
Yet Luo Jun had saved his life, and Jack did not even say thanks. Instead, he started resenting Luo Jun because of his former identity.
Luo Jun had no need to be a good guy in order to gain his approval. On the contrary, he had to eliminate those dangers. Who knew if Jack would sneak attack him?
At the moment, Luo Jun did not want to deal with this matter yet. He would make a decision after things settled down and he saw how the two men's relationship developed.
"I need to go find a freshwater source, then determine where to set up the shelter."
Luo Jun said to the three women as he stood up.
Lorna also stood up.
"Let me go with you?"
Luo Jun was about to decline at first, but then he thought Lorna seemed to have something to tell him, and it certainly would not be convenient to say it here.
"Jenny, can you lend your shoes to Lorna for now?"
Luo Jun looked at Jenny and asked.
Not having shoes was a big long-term problem for Lorna. Later when the weather got colder, she would not be able to go outdoors without shoes, which was equal to directly losing a laborer.
Jenny agreed without even thinking, taking off her Martin boots and giving them to Lorna.
This was a very good way to contribute to group integration. Jenny clearly did not want to miss this opportunity either. From this, Luo Jun also tested how strong her willingness was to join them.
"Don't let the fire go out. Add some firewood appropriately. We’ll be back when we return."
After instructing them, Luo Jun went towards the marsh with Lorna.
Where there were marshes, the terrain was usually lower, so it was easier for rainwater or creek water to accumulate. Luo Jun had undoubtedly chosen the right direction. It would be difficult without this kind of survival knowledge.
"As far as I know, this island does not exist on the map. Have you noticed it too?"
Luo Jun tentatively asked Lorna.
Lorna hesitated to speak.
Seeing that she was unwilling to talk, Luo Jun did not ask further. But it was apparent that she certainly knew something about this island, or at least had a general idea.
On the way, Luo Jun picked some berries in the woods to eat.
After walking for a while, Luo Jun discovered that a large stretch of forest ahead had been knocked down by something, revealing yellowish-white broken tree stumps!
Judging from the freshness of the tree stumps though, they should have been broken about three to eight days ago.
At the end of the knocked down forest, there was also a stretch of burnt trees.
"Let's go over and take a look!"
Luo Jun held Lorna’s hand and walked forward. Soon, the view opened up. Luo Jun noticed that at the end of the knocked down forest was an crashed military transport helicopter!
"Damn! That's a U.S. Osprey!"
The Osprey was a tiltrotor aircraft with rotatable propellers at the wingtips that allowed it to take off and land vertically like a helicopter but fly like a conventional aircraft.
As a state governor, Lorna clearly also had very strong military weapons knowledge. She also recognized it at a glance.
"With a military transport aircraft crashing being such a big incident, how could you not know?"
Luo Jun walked forward while turning back to ask Lorna.
Lorna shook her head.
"How could I possibly know U.S. military secrets? And this probably only crashed a few days ago."
Lorna said somewhat indignantly.
Luo Jun gave a cold smile. "Then you shouldn't not know about an island appearing in the California Current area, right?"
Luo Jun's words made Lorna feel somewhat awkward, but she remained silent.
This made Luo Jun even more full of questions in his heart.
Normally, all the islands in this stretch of waters should be visible on the maps of all countries using satellites. There was no reason for an island like this to not exist on any country's conventional maps and satellite maps.
Unless all countries in the world reached a consensus to deliberately erase this island from all satellite maps.
As for private satellites, they were easier to control since launching satellites required national approval. So it was not difficult for them to shield an area from their satellites.
Plus fishing boats had been completely prohibited from coming here for the past fifty years.
Combining all this made Luo Jun unable to help but think deeply and fearfully.
Luo Jun did not continue interrogating Lorna either. Instead, he held her hand as they moved forward with difficulty through the stretch of broken forest.
After enormous effort, they finally made it to the aircraft wreckage about a hundred meters away.
The aircraft's two wings had completely broken apart during the rolling crash, leaving only the fuselage portion that looked like an olive.
Luo Jun picked up a broken propeller blade from the ground. This blade was like a chopping knife, with the tip of the diagonally broken end sharp like a knife.
"Don't come over here. I'll go inside and check out the situation."
Luo Jun ordered Lorna. Lorna obediently nodded. Luo Jun carefully walked in through the side door that had been smashed open in the crash.
Before even entering, Luo Jun smelled a stench of blood.
Until Luo Jun saw the scene before his eyes, his eyes couldn’t help but widen in shock.
The scene inside was simply too horrifying. There were blackened body parts and flesh everywhere, as if they had been torn apart by some beast a few days ago. Not a single complete corpse could be found, and there were lots of army ants crawling everywhere.
The dense army ants formed a transportation path about two palms wide on the ground.
Piece by piece of blackened rotten meat was being carried over their heads and transported away, looking like a small black stream flowing from the aircraft wreckage into the forest, disappearing into the lush bushes.
The corpses inside were no longer intact either, most looking as if they had been torn apart by some beast.
Luo Jun could be certain that people who died in plane crashes would definitely not become like this. And from their tattered uniforms, it was clear that this was caused by some beasts tearing into them.
"Mr. Luo Jun, what's the situation inside?"
Lorna couldn’t help but ask curiously.
"Don't come over. I'll tell you later."
Luo Jun was extremely horrified in his heart. If these corpses were torn apart by some large beast, then his group would be in danger too.
What worried Luo Jun the most was not the beasts! But that there were also many bullet holes in the aircraft.
And these were not shot from inside out, but outside in. In other words, there was likely some mysterious military base stationed on this island that opened fire without warning!
Luo Jun did not have a clue about how much secrecy and complexity was involved here.
Soon, Luo Jun discovered another ironclad evidence.
That was that all the weapons on these dead soldiers were missing!
Beasts could not have taken away firearms. This was one hundred percent man-made.
Who the hell dared to directly shoot down a U.S. military transport plane?
On other countries it would still make sense, but in the California Current region right at America's doorstep, wasn't this making trouble in someone else's turf?
No country in North America would dare to be so arrogant against the U.S. military!
This also indirectly proved that this island was highly unlikely to be a U.S. private base. Otherwise, why would they attack their own men?
There were so many secrets and complexity here that Luo Jun did not have a clue about.
