Seeing that she could no gain any advantage in the verbal sparring, Ophelia glanced around and flashed a triumphant smile.
Luo Wei looked at Ophelia, who was as proud and flamboyant as a peacock, and couldn’t help but wear a bemused expression on his face.
Double kill.
She was on a roll...
Whether it was in words or status, Evelyn and Helena stood no chance of winning...
And likely, the same was true in terms of strength.
Ophelia turned her gaze to Luo Wei, who was caught in an awkward and uncomfortable situation, and let out a soft laugh. Her sharp eyes finally softened.
She took the fruits and supplements that Caroline had brought and moved to place them by Luo Wei’s bedside.
In doing so, she also subtly closed the distance between herself and Luo Wei.
“I don’t need your fake kindness!”
Helena, like a vigilant guard dog, fiercely stepped in front of Luo Wei, blocking Ophelia.
“Get out of here! Leave now! And don’t come looking for my brother again!”
Ophelia was kept at bay by Helena, who stood like an impenetrable wall, not even giving her a chance to speak to Luo Wei...
She frowned almost imperceptibly, her eyes lowering slightly.
Luo Wei, who knew her well, recognized this as a sign that Ophelia was about to lose her temper.
Ophelia’s gaze turned cold once more. “Why can’t I come to see Luo Wei?”
She feigned confusion. “My lover is injured. Isn’t it perfectly normal for me to visit him?”
“What did you say!?” Helena’s eyes widened in shock.
“You’re being ridiculous...” Ophelia ignored her and instead looked directly at Luo Wei.
Her light-colored eyes were filled with affection and love, just like the gaze shared between any ordinary couple.
Luo Wei met her gaze for a moment and immediately thought, *This is bad.* He quickly turned to look at Helena.
Sure enough.
Helena was absolutely furious.
With a sharp cracking sound, a wave of killing intent filled the air as six black tentacles shot toward Ophelia.
Yet Ophelia remained unfazed, her eyes still fixed on Luo Wei. She didn’t even flinch, as if she wasn’t the least bit concerned about Helena’s attack.
Luo Wei’s heart raced. Something was wrong—very, very wrong.
Suddenly, he felt the atmosphere in the room grow sinister. His eyes quickly caught sight of twisted black shadows seeping in through the narrow gap under the door.
In an instant, four shadow guards appeared in the room, forming a protective circle around Ophelia. Their speed was so fast that no one in the room had time to react.
And then, there was Jason, the leader of the shadow guards, who was already behind Helena, thrusting a dagger toward her back.
“Wait!” Luo Wei urgently tried to intervene.
He pushed Helena aside, and though she was caught off guard, her reflexes were quick.
As the dagger redirected its path toward her again, the six black tentacles immediately retracted to shield her body.
A dull clang echoed through the air as metal struck something hard.
When the attack failed, Jason’s expression flickered with surprise. He then vanished like a shadow, reappearing beside Ophelia along with the other guards.
The sudden display of such chilling killing intent and the abrupt turn of events caused Evelyn’s face to darken.
She immediately glanced toward the iron door and shouted in frustration,
“Hey! Where are the guards? Where’s the Special Affairs Department?”
“Barging into an intensive care unit in broad daylight! Is there no law anymore? Aren’t you going to do something about this?”
She glared at Ophelia, clearly hoping to take her down a peg and regain some ground.
However.
After a moment of silence, the only response was... more silence.
Evelyn furrowed her brows in confusion.
“What’s going on... Where is everyone?”
Ophelia let out a cold laugh.
“Didn’t you know? I once took charge of the Special Affairs Department for a time.”
She cast a disdainful glance at Evelyn. “Everyone outside is under my command.”
“Huh?” Evelyn immediately looked to Luo Wei for confirmation.
Luo Wei awkwardly nodded. It was true...
Evelyn stood there, feeling utterly embarrassed. She really hadn’t known about this—she had been away from the family for too long.
“Jason,” Ophelia said softly, glancing at the shadow guard leader.
“You can leave now. This doesn’t concern you.”
Jason immediately nodded.
Then, under the watchful eyes of everyone in the room, the air rippled with an eerie distortion, and the shadows vanished.
The shadow guards disappeared right before their eyes.
Evelyn narrowed her eyes. The abilities of these shadow guards were beyond her expectations. She hadn’t thought that the fifth princess, who was supposedly out of favor, would have such capable subordinates.
She had really underestimated her...
“Ophelia...” Luo Wei looked at her helplessly. “Enough with the games. Can we get to the point now?”
On the surface, it seemed like she was here to stir up trouble, to assert her dominance over the other women.
But Luo Wei, who knew her well, understood that Ophelia’s time was precious. She never wasted it on people she didn’t care about.
She must have something important to say.
Sure enough, Ophelia smiled sweetly at Luo Wei. The moment their eyes met, it was as if everything had already been communicated without words.
Helena shot a resentful glance at her brother and tightly gripped his sleeve.
“Let’s keep this brief,” Ophelia said, sweeping her gaze across the room, ensuring she remained the center of attention.
“I can get Luo Wei out of here.”
Her words left everyone stunned.
The reactions pleased Ophelia, and she continued at a leisurely pace,
“You’ve probably heard about what’s happening outside. The situation is getting worse. It’s clear that someone is using this incident to destabilize things.”
“So, whether or not the culprit is caught, it no longer matters.”
“My father has already labeled this as the work of the Truth Cult, an evil religious group. I’ve also spoken to the Special Affairs Department. Luo Wei will be released today.”
Hearing this, both Helena and Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief.
Ophelia glanced at Luo Wei and then at the two women.
“If it weren’t for Luo Wei, I wouldn’t have bothered wasting my breath on you.”
Seeing her haughty demeanor, Helena felt a mix of anger and sadness. She gripped Luo Wei’s hand tighter and tighter.
The sadness stemmed from the fact that...
She had been of no help to her brother in this matter, while the woman she despised the most had effortlessly resolved everything...
Helena lowered her head, her heart filling with dread.
She was useless... utterly useless...
If things continued like this, her brother would truly be taken away from her...
“Helena?” Luo Wei looked at her with concern.
Her grip on his hand tightened, but she remained silent, her head bowed as if lost in thought.
Suddenly, Helena looked up.
Her small face was filled with determination, as if she had made a significant decision in her heart.
She leaned in close to Luo Wei’s ear and whispered,
“Brother! I want to go home.”
Luo Wei’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at her.
Helena nodded firmly. Yes, home!
No matter how much she feared the presence lurking in that old mansion, she couldn’t think about that right now!
The vampire had already been taken in by her brother before she could act! If that detestable woman got ahead of her again, she would lose her mind!
And... she felt a deep sense of regret and guilt over this whole situation.
Her brother lacked strength.
If he had the same abilities and power he had four years ago, he wouldn’t have been tormented by Ophelia like this...
But she had been too stubborn, refusing to return to that old mansion...
So, she decided she would become someone useful to her brother!
With this thought, Helena cast a smug glance at the woman she hated the most.
What does it matter if you have power and influence? You’ve never truly considered what’s best for my brother!
Not like me.
I only care about my brother’s well-being~
