The Only One Without Superpowers in the Whole World Chapter 17

Hunter? Prey?

Here, everyone plays both roles, but if someone's power is too outstanding...

Li Chang'an shook his head and said, "Not necessarily. The first day doesn't count for much since the city is only so big. Many will be eliminated on the first day."

"Those with weak abilities, too little combat experience, or who wrongly decide to grab points on the first day will meet their death very quickly. Just like you’ve already taken seventeen points."

"If I remember correctly, there are one hundred and ninety-seven participants this time. You and I together already have one tenth of the points."

Wen Anran suddenly revealed a strange smile, looking Li Chang’an up and down, "I didn't know you could be so talkative... Don't be angry, I'm serious. Do you remember that guy ranked first in win rate on the information sheet? That Charles?"

"Just yesterday after entering, his thunderstorm harvested at least twenty lives, covering an area of at least five hundred meters."

Li Chang'an let out a breath, lowered his head to look at the ground, "Do you feel your body is a little numb?"

"I feel it, but it doesn't matter," Wen Anran shrugged, "My superpower tells me it's safe now, so I shouldn't move around."

"Alright, but I'm going up to take a look. I hope in the end there's only you and me left." Li Chang'an stood up, turned and left with his small backpack.

What a pity! Wen Anran shook his head. Suddenly his expression changed - no, it wasn't safe here, it was safe wherever he moved. He was safe around himself?

Could his superpower be rubber, providing insulation?

There was a sense of déjà vu.

To avoid the danger overhead, Li Chang'an deliberately took a few more steps, taking another street.

When he was bandaging earlier, he had already noticed traces of people passing through the sewer. Now even the sewers would no longer be safe. Superpowers could gain strength from the environment, for example, someone with Water Element Mastery would have the advantage near rivers and lakes, and sewers would also be advantageous for some.

The surroundings were still quiet. Li Chang'an carefully moved forward through the gaps between the tall buildings.

Without needing to climb upwards, he could see the silver-white lightning flashing in the sky not far away, still dazzling even in broad daylight.

The young man floating in midair was like a thunder god descended to earth, bathed in lightning as he stood tall beneath the firmament, with only void beneath his feet.

"Is it magnetism? This guy seems to have some magic," Li Chang'an frowned and retreated. He had heard that when Lightning Element Mastery reached a certain level, one could sense magnetic fields.

But making oneself fly didn't seem very scientific...

Metal clothes and shoes?

Li Chang'an did not intend to make a move. That would be seeking death. He only wanted to witness combat at this level firsthand, to prepare for possible pursuits in the future.

After looking for a few moments and mentally estimating the opponent's combat power, then multiplying that number by three, Li Chang'an turned to leave.

He didn't know who Charles' opponent was, but they probably had no chance of survival.

The dense, intricate buildings were Li Chang'an's best hunting ground, allowing him to approach opponents easily. Now he could only hope Charles would attract more reckless people and that those plotting ambushes would show themselves.

Perhaps he wouldn't need to do anything. This trial could end very quickly.

A three-story building collapsed up ahead, making Li Chang'an stop in his tracks.

As dust filled the sky, he swiftly retreated and hid himself behind the collapsed wall, peering through the cracks to see what was happening ahead - there might be a chance to claim some heads.

A woman tumbled out of the dust, rolling twice on the ground before landing on the street not far from Li Chang'an. Her pink hair was disheveled and her skintight athleticwear ripped and bloodied in many places.

Pink hair? I've seen her before! Li Chang'an smiled - she was quite a cute girl, and a bit fierce too. I wonder if she'd curse me if she died by my hand? I'm so curious.

Right after the woman, a verdant figure leapt out. Clearly a man, wearing a green bodysuit. Together with his slender build, he looked like an aloe vera come to life.

"Don't run!" The man was in no hurry to attack, clutching a dagger as he advanced step by step. "My superpower is Poison! If you're wounded, you won't be able to escape. Give up!"

What an idiot, can't he see the thunder god displaying his might over there? Li Chang'an shook his head. He had been about to leave, but now decided to stay a little longer. As he turned to go, from the corner of his eye he noticed the pink-haired girl's right hand subtly grasping a handful of sand as she pushed herself off the ground.

Just as Li Chang'an expected, when the aloe vera man came two steps closer, the pink-haired girl suddenly flung the sand in her hand, then unhesitatingly charged towards the building Li Chang'an was in.

Caught off guard, the aloe vera man was struck full in the face by the sand. Though he quickly rubbed his eyes and gave chase, he was still a few steps slower than the woman. He could only watch as she dashed into the building, cursing loudly before leaping up several meters and bounding inside after her.

The pink-haired girl was already injured and moving sluggishly. With obstacles on the lower floor but an open rooftop, taking the high road would be faster if one didn't fear heights.

Just as he was pondering how to torment this woman, the aloe vera man suddenly froze, looking down at the arm piercing through his chest.

To ensure a quick death, Li Chang'an followed up with a punch, both fists penetrating the chest, then ripped outwards with full force.

Lacking some strength, he didn't tear the man completely in two, but still ripped a large hole in his chest, sending organs spilling to the ground.

"I was about to leave, you know." Li Chang'an squatted down with a helpless look, first picking up the aloe vera man's dagger, then taking a conspicuous little pouch from his waist as he leapt down from the building.

Have to grab every last point while he can still move.

Just after landing steadily, Li Chang'an bumped right into the pink-haired girl coming up from below. About to strike,

"It's you!" The pink-haired girl recognized Li Chang'an and glanced upwards, immediately realizing what happened. Softly, she said "Thank you."

Li Chang'an laughed and shook his head. "No need to thank me, actually I was just..."

"I know, you just happened to pass by. You didn't intentionally come to rescue me." The pink-haired girl smiled. "My name is Lin Yubai. If not for you, I would have died today. But I'm already poisoned, so I can only forfeit now."

"No no, you don't have to forfeit." Li Chang'an stepped forward, dagger in hand, body relaxed and swaying like willow branches, but coiled to spring with lethal speed at the slightest move forward.

Lin Yubai opened her arms and stepped forward to embrace Li Chang'an, smiling yet with slight choke in her voice. "Thank you for encouraging me, but I was wrong. I didn't have the qualifications to enter this place to begin with."

"You have to live on. I'll be waiting for you outside. It's too dangerous here. I shouldn't have let you protect me, or drag you down."

"That day, you wanted to save that girl too, right? I'm sorry for glaring at you then. You really are a good person."

"Do your best!"

Li Chang'an watched as Lin Yubai dissipated into a mist of light in his arms, knowing she had chosen to forfeit. He looked at the dagger in his hand, confused.

The trials facility's judgements were very strict. One could only forfeit when completely safe, not even if someone nearby revealed killing intent.

"So...why didn't I kill her?"
